Effortless Flip-bar

To convert a Nikita Convertible from sofa to bed, pop out the flip-bar and just lean back. The sofa or chair will recline. Lean back all the way and it SELF-LOCKS into a rock solid, stable bed. It does this by virtue of the simple yet sophisticated geometry of its structural parts. There are no ratchets, grooves, pegs or springs to struggle with. To return a Nikita from bed to sofa... just lift the backrest a bit ... and the sofa or chair rotates itself up. Its that easy.

Ergonomic Seat - Flat Bed - Self-adjusting Recliner

Nikita Convertibles have an ergonomically pitched seating angle in the sofa that is comfortable for the shorter as well as the taller person. When the flip-bar is open, the Nikita Convertible becomes a self-adjusting recliner. Just lean back and the backrest reclines. Lean back all the way and it locks into a rock solid, stable, perfectly flat platform bed.

Strong by Design not by bulk

Cross-braced in every direction, Nikita Convertibles are strong by design, not bulk. Made of 100% solid hardwood and put together with screws and glue ( no air nails), they feature triple support at all load bearing joints... slats are screwed into rails which are supported by cross-braces that stretch between the legs. They are built like elegant bridges... not massive forts...

Lightweight and Easy to carry

...Which makes them lightweight. A Full Nikita Sofabed Frame weighs between 70 and 80 lbs. Pull out 3 pins and it slides apart into 2 decks, each weighing between 35 and 40 lbs. You can carry it under your arm... up or down any staircase... anywhere

Most Compact Sofa

Measuring only 36 deep in sofa position, the Nikita design is the most compact sofabed around. This is because the multi-tasking flipbar, which becomes the sturdy legs when a bed, the smooth self-adjusting reclining mechanism when a lounger, flips-in and out of the way, to become the sturdy back brace of the sofa.

Horizontal Slats and the UNIFRAME DESIGN

The long, one-piece, clear hardwood slats that make up the sturdy decks of the Nikita designs are harder to come by than cheaper, more oft used short, vertical slats found in other sofabeds. These attractive long slats are an integral part of the bridge-like design of the hyper-efficient Nikita "uniframe" or "one-frame" design wherein the slat decks and supporting structures and arms are one integrated unit. (See Design Comparison.) What's more, the cushion or mattress tends to slide right down vertical slats, whereas, the horizontal slats help to keep the cushion in place.

Triple Cross-bracing Exceptionally Strong

Nikita Convertibles are exceptionally strong and rigid without undue bulk. Its slats are 7/8" thick, clear hardwood, spanning the length of the bed. The slats are supported underneath by 6 thick hardwood rails ( 3 on each deck) which are pinned together by 5/16" thick steel pins. These rails, in turn, are supported by hardwood beams that not only provide strength but multi-task as an integrated part of the reclining and converting mechanism.

No Swaying or Sagging

The rails and supports extend underneath throughout the entire frame. The result is that there is no swaying or rocking of the bed and virtually no sag at all in the middle of the bed. All of this is important because no matter how supportive the mattress may be, if a bed frame sags in the middle, so will even the best mattress. Nikita Convertibles do not sway or sag in the bed position. They are rock solid Platform Beds that easily pop up into comfortable sofas, chairs and loungers.

The Nikita woodshop is located in beautiful Leatherstocking Country, nestled between the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains in New York State. Just like the Nikita product designs are based on a premise of multi-tasking and hyper-efficiency... so is the production shop and system. There is no wasted space and a high per-square foot productivity yield.

Sustainable - Renewable - Zero Waste

Nikita Convertibles are made of 100% solid hardwood, itself a renewable resource. The wood is clear, beautiful and naturally strong. Our system designed especially to produce them is itself a study in hyper-efficiency. All the less than perfect pieces of wood that did not "make the cut" ( we call them "cut-offs" ) are burned in the wood stove (energy efficient wood stove, ofcourse) keeping us warm throughout the long upstate New York winters. The wood shavings are given to local farmers for animal bedding. And that leaves nothing behind, except clear, beautiful solid hardwood furniture that is built to serve a lifetime.
